This list shows every Apple iPhone release in chronological order, beginning in 2007, more than a decade ago, to the latest iPhone SE (2022) smartphone. Apple's iPhone lineup has changed quite a bit over the years. In fact, each year, the company releases a new version of its flagship smartphone. These phones come with various improvements and features, such as better cameras, faster processors, longer battery life, and even larger screens

The Original iPhone

iPhone 1

This is the very first iPhone and it was launched on June 29, 2007, and sold over 10 million units in just three months. The device has been credited with sparking a mobile phone revolution that changed the way people communicate. In 2008, Apple announced it had sold more than 100 million iPhones worldwide, making it one of the most successful consumer electronics products ever created.

It is sometimes referred to as the “iPhone 2G” due to its lack of 3G network support. It had a 3.5-inch display screen, was 11 mm thick, and had  4/8/16 GB of storage space. Compared to today's smartphones, which don't seem like much, it was huge back then. It had a 128 MB memory, which was quite impressive, and weighed just 135 g.

iPhone 3G

iPhone 3G

On July 11, 2008, Apple released the iPhone 3G, which featured a 3.5-inch display screen,  8/16 GB of internal storage, and a 412 MHz processor. It also introduced GPS technology for the first time. The 3G model was available in two colors: black or white.

iPhone 3G was among the first smartphones to include built-in GPS technology, which made apps like Google Maps even more useful. The phone also featured a faster processor and an improved camera. It also included a new feature called "FaceTime," which allowed users to make video calls over Wi-Fi or cellular networks.

iPhone 3GS

iPhone 3Gs

The Apple iPhone 3G S gave users a newly upgraded 32 GB storage system. It was amazing how quickly the App store changed the game, from just taking pictures and listening to music to playing games, smaller storage systems were not going to be enough to deal with the volume. Strikingly, it was upgraded to a 3-megapixel system, which allowed revolutionary recording.

The new features of the iPhone 3GS are mainly improvements regarding speed. The iPhone 3GS was reportedly twice as fast as the previous generation of iPhones. In addition to the improvements in performance, various software features exclusive to the iPhone 3GS were introduced including video recording, voice control, and a digital compass.

iPhone 4

iPhone 4

The iPhone 4 was announced on June 21, 2010, and it was Apple’s fourth-generation smartphone. This device had a lot of improvements over previous models, including a faster processor, better battery life, and a larger screen. Critics praised the iPhone 4 for its improved design and more powerful hardware compared to previous models.

The iPhone 4 is equipped with an Apple A4 chip. It has 512 MB of RAM and 8/16/32 GB of built-in storage. The iPhone 4 is thinner than its predecessors, but it’s still big enough to fit in your pocket. It’s also lighter than previous models thanks to a new unibody design that uses aluminum for the back cover and plastic for the front face.

iPhone 4S

iPhone 4S

Apple released the iPhone 4S on October 14, 2011. It has a dual-core A5 chip, which makes it twice as fast as the iPhone 4. It also includes an 8-megapixel camera, 1080p HD video recording, and a 0.3-megapixel front-facing camera.

It was a huge step forward. The iPhone 4S camera jumped from a respectable five megapixels on the iPhone 4 to an astounding eight megapixels. It was the introduction of a 64GB storage option, another major contributor, but it only held 512 MB Of Memory. It is also where we got our friend Siri. Within the first week, Apple had already sold four million units of its new iPhone 4S.

iPhone 5

iPhone 5

Apple introduced the iPhone 5 on September 12, 2012. Memory was increased to 1GB, but the camera remained the same. LTE connectivity is standard for the iPhone 5, so 3G looks like child’s play. With the internet now just a click away, no one has to be stuck anywhere. The Lightning connector was created by Apple. With a larger 4" screen, the revolution was underway.

The iPhone 5 featured significant design changes compared to its predecessor. It features an aluminum-based body that’s thinner and lighter than previous iPhones, a taller screen with an almost 16:9 aspect ratio, the Apple A6 system-on-chip, LTE support, and Lightning, a new compact dock connector that replaces the 30-pin design. This was the second Apple smartphone to include its new Sony-made 8MP camera. It was first introduced on the Apple iPhone 4S.

iPhone 5C & 5S

iPhone 5C & 5S

The iPhone 5C & 5S were released on September 20, 2013. The iPhone 5C was released at a lower price point than the new flagship iPhone 5S. On the weekend of their release (iPhone 5S and iPhone 5c), Apple sold 9 million units of the iPhone, breaking its previous record.

The iPhone 5S has maintained almost the same external design as its predecessor. It had a faster processor, an additional motion-tracking processor, a better camera with some new features, and a fingerprint sensor Meanwhile, the iPhone 5C is basically an iPhone 5 in a colorful plastic case. In fact, the iPhone 5C replaced the iPhone 5 in the lineup. The iPhone 5s, on the other hand, introduced Touch ID, dual flash, and slow-motion video.

iPhone 6 & 6 Plus

iPhone 6 & 6 Plus

The iPhone 6 & 6 Plus was the eighth generation of iPhones and they brought along some big changes to how the phone worked.iPhone 6 Plus included the same general design as iPhone 6 with only a slight difference in size. The iPhone 6 Plus introduced a full-functioning touch screen, and no keyboard, and ran a brand new operating system, iOS, which would later become Apple’s mobile operating system.

The battery in the new iPhone 6 Plus got much better. However, beyond these surface differences, the iPhone 6 Plus was identical to the iPhone 6. As of today, Apple's iPhone 6 & 6 Plus remains one of the company's best-selling models of all time.

iPhone 6S & 6S Plus

iPhone 6s & 6s Plus

iPhone SE (1st Generation)

iPhone SE (1st Generation)

Just six months after the release of the iPhone 6S, Apple decided to release iPhone SE on March 31, 2016. iPhone SE, a 4-inch screen smartphone offered a rather cheaper option than Apple's flagship iPhone 6S & 6S Plus.

The iPhone SE took many of the hardware upgrades that came from the iPhone 6 and 6S and put them into a phone that looked more like the iPhone 5, giving those who prefer smaller phones the best of both worlds. But overall, the iPhone SE was introduced as a more affordable option that people really loved.

iPhone 7 & 7 Plus

iPhone 7 & 7 Plus

On September 16, 2016, Apple finally dropped the 16 GB base model option, with iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus base models now starting at 32 GB of storage, and going up to 256 GB.

The iPhone 7 Plus proved to be more popular than previous Plus models due to its new dual camera, which made a significantly improved zoom feature possible, and Portrait Mode, a software update that let iPhone 7 Plus users take impressive photos using Depth of Field.

The most controversial feature of the iPhone 7 and 7 Plus was the one Apple removed: the headphone jack. The removal of this port, which has been a staple on every phone since 2007's iPhone 4S, is seen as an effort to make room for the new A10 Fusion chip that powers both devices.

iPhone 8 & 8 Plus

iPhone 8 & 8 Plus

On September 22, 2017, Apple released its new iPhones, the iPhone 8 & iPhone 8 Plus. Additionally, the iPhone 8 and iPhone 8 Plus came with the latest version of Apple's operating systems, iOS 12, and they had two choices for internal memory: 64GB or 256GB.

The phone has lost some of the spotlights now that the iPhone 12 and iPhone 13 lines are available. Apple claims that the iPhone 11 battery lasts an hour longer than that of the iPhone XR.

iPhone 11 Pro

iPhone 11 Pro
